The job is not done until, sure, legally, when I have met the terms of the proposal, which will be stated in writing. But beyond that it’s just a basic fact of the way I do things, that I will not be happy with the project until you are. This is WHY I am so careful upfront to describe exactly what you will be getting. And then with the end result I hope, and expect, that your experience with the project over the years will be exactly like how I experience my own work for myself as I say to myself each time I look at it: “Yes. Very good. Glad I (we) took the time to do it right.” And it makes me happy all over again.

Extended free “estimate” time, often, necessarily becoming a (still free) collaborative design session. (Naturally I have to place limits on that, but this happens infrequently.)

Transparent pricing. The nature of this work is different than remodeling, for instance, where the customer has come to expect having to make room in their budget for surprise contingencies. I have always tried (with very high success) to avoid this by giving set pricing upfront, the only variables being Options, which also have to be chosen prior to the start of any work.

I have no standard written warranty on my work. I will write one up on your request. I have had a couple of call backs in my last 20 years of skilled work, which I took care of promptly and satisfactorily to the customer. Perhaps the best way to approach that would be for you to show me a warranty you’ve seen for a similar type of work, and I will either match it or tell you why it is unreasonable, and state mine differently.

Initial Consultation
I can often come up with a complete estimate for you just through a little back-and-forth via text and email. This usually requires that you are willing and able to send some pictures of the involved space(s) and get measurements (within an inch is ok) of the space, and then also send pics of things you like and want to integrate into your design. I will always at least do a home visit for measurement confirmation before starting the work.
Precise Design & 3D Modeling
The renderings I can provide may not be high end, able to duplicate finishes you may want, but the drawings definitely show you the proportions correctly, and from different viewpoints (in the 3D drawings). Generally I go through 2-3 revisions before we settle on a basic design for the project. The estimate will include that design plus options. Your first invoice will include that design WITH the options you have chosen.

I like to keep it close. It makes no sense to drive all over Atlanta when I know there are plenty of people near me who would appreciate my work. I am aiming for these zip codes but MAY make exceptions and go slightly into zip codes adjacent to these, which are in approximate order of the number of customers over the years: 30040, 30041, 30024, 30004, 30005, 30028, 30115, 30518. So Cumming mostly, then close Suwannee, then Close Alpharetta, then close Sugar Hill, then towns between Cumming and Canton.
What is your typical project timeline?

I find myself often saying “between two and three weeks” as most of my projects are in that range. Of course I will take on smaller projects and quote you appropriately. My availability is the bigger question, because it varies wildly, from being immediately available to three or four months “out”. The best thing for you is to get an estimate and get in line. I will then keep you updated on when I expect your project would/will start. A commitment is not needed to hold your place in line until the actual start date gets close, say within a couple weeks.
What would you charge?

Everyone wants to ask this question and no one wants to answer. The risk is always to set customer expectations improperly. And still, I will go ahead and say, for example, my fireplace built-ins have ranged (recently) from $3500 to $7800. I’m quoting some very large ones now that could stay well within that range or go above it. It all depends on the design and the materials. Know that I am unlikely to give you “a ballpark figure” with any more precision than what I’ve just said. It doesn’t serve either of us. But also know that when you get your price, that’s your price.”
